In this week’s most dramatic CBD-related story, PotNetwork News published an explosive piece about a company which claimed to have isolated CBD from hops.
The report alleged that a convicted con artist committed fraud and plagiarism to dupe some of the CBD industry’s biggest players into believing that he had found a non-cannabis plant source of CBD.
[Ed. Note: In August 2019, the website retracted the article and issued an apology.]
The United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs had planned to reconsider international cannabis rescheduling this month.
But thanks to the delayed report by the World Health Organization’s Expert Committee on Drug Dependence — which was supposed to come out in December, and was instead released in January — that vote will be rescheduled to allow member countries to consider the report’s recommendations.

When it comes to updating its guidance on CBD and other cannabinoids, the FDA is not moving as quickly as some consumers and industry leaders would like.
But although the process may take time, agency head Scott Gottlieb told state officials this week that the FDA is willing to work with Congress on alternative approaches to make CBD accessible to consumers.
And while the FDA decides how to proceed, its current position that it’s illegal to add CBD to foods is affecting businesses and consumers nationwide.
For example, the South Carolina department of agriculture is currently warning businesses about adding CBD to human or animal foods. While hemp and medical cannabis are legal in the state, officials say that they must enforce federal law.
